Experience the sights, scents, spirits and flavors of Finland at the annual holiday celebration at Balboa Park.
The public is invited to an authorized showing of the legendary "The Unknown Soldier" movie, on Finland's Independence Day. The movie will be shown in Finnish with English subtitles with a running time of three (3) hours. The event is free - donations will be accepted. Refreshments will be served.
The 102nd Finnish Independence Day celebration is organized by the Finnish-American Chamber of Commerce and hosted by the Honorary Consul of Finland John Saunders. Music by concert pianist Kati Eriikka Arikoski-Johnson, dinner, full bar and dance hits taking us late into the night headlined by Finnish entertainer Simodeus.
This festive, black tie, holiday tradition includes an open bar, a selection of hors d’oeuvres, a three course dinner, Lucia Procession and Lucia songs, guest performance, and dancing until midnight!
In celebration of Finland's 102nd anniversary of independence, pianist Ruusamari Teppo, the great-great-granddaughter of Jean Sibelius, will play a concert. This event is co-sponsored by FFCPC and Messiah Lutheran church, Portland's Finnish church.
