Public Saunas

From traditional permanent saunas to pop-up or mobile saunas, the number of saunas that are open to the public is exploding. Just recently on the waterfront in Duluth, Minnesota, Cedar & Stone added a floating barge sauna to its grounded versions, complete with a plunge into Lake Superior’s chilly water (right). The North American Sauna Society is in the midst of a project to research and rate public saunas, and SaunaTimes maintains a mapped list (click box below).

With nearly three dozen public saunas, the City of Tampere, Finland, has declared itself the Sauna Capital of the World.
