Peter Mäkilä

Peter J. Mäkilä was born in Turku, Finland and educated in Finland, Canada and the United States. He has a degree in Business Administration and Marketing and received two professional designations in insurance while in Canada (Associate of the Insurance Institute of Canada) AIIC and (Charted Insurance Broker) CCIB.

Mäkilä has served on many boards in Canada and U.S., including professional associations, Canada Suomi Foundation, Finnish Resthome Association, Finlandia Foundation Florida Chapter, FinnFest USA, and as the President of St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church Council. He is currently vice president and one of the founding members of the Finnish American Chamber of Commerce, Florida Chapter. Peter was Honorary Consul of Finland in Canada and now serves in that capacity in the State of Florida, as the Honorary Consul of Finland, Lake Worth. He recently retired as owner of Allstate Peter Makila Agency Inc.

Peter has been honored with Finland’s Knight Medal of the 1st Class. He is married to Arja, with four children: two in Canada and two in the U.S. They have nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
