Soiva International Music Camp 2024

Let’s Create Music Together!
July 15-21 in the Pacific Northwest

What is the NEW Soiva Camp?

While true to its roots as an international music experience for young people, Finlandia Foundation National’s Soiva Camp 2024 has a new format, location and collaboration with Sibelius Academy’s Global Music program that offers the opportunity for musical exploration to everyone, whether or not they have previous training in music.

Soiva means “sounding forth.” A joyful noise!

Soiva 2024 offers youths aged 12-17 the opportunity to unlock their creative potential in a supportive and nurturing environment. Campers will develop skills for creative expression through singing, playing instruments, lyric writing, improvisation and various musical games and activities. Students will spend their time learning how to share, listen, collaborate and create with others.

Maria Männistö is coordinating Soiva 2024, and leading the sessions are instructors Artur Uronen and Kata Vuoristo from Helsinki and the Sibelius Academy’s Global Music program.

“The Global Music Department embraces pluralistic, fluid approaches to sound, music, culture and identity, creating an educational environment where musicians are supported to develop their own unique voices, exchange and merge practices and create new music through intercultural collaboration.”

This camp, at the Gwinwood Retreat Center in Lacey, Washington (near Olympia), offers traditional summertime activities at the lake and around the campfire. All meals and snacks are provided, and campers stay in gender specific lodging with adult chaperones.

The closing performance by the students at the National Nordic Museum in Seattle will be a memorable conclusion to this inspiring week of music, creativity, cultural exchange and friendship in the Pacific Northwest.
