SUMMARY:MN: The Reading Room
DESCRIPTION:A one-act play by Ann Toumi\, Thursday September 28 in Superior\, Wisconsin and Friday the 29th in Duluth\, Minnesota. \nIt’s about a teenage girl\, whose first job is in the Reading Room of the Duluth City Library\, circa 1968. Two Finnish men\, whose unfulfilled dreams as emigrants led them to a homeless existence and long days spent in the safe haven of the library’s reading room\, represent the many immigrants who ended up alone and homeless in Northern Minnesota. The men’s poverty and loneliness intrigues the young girl\, who develops compassion and empathy for these solitary immigrants. \nIn Duluth there will be a reception at the historic train depot at 1 p.m. on the day of the performance.
