Sibelius 150 Events

Communities across the United States will be hearing a lot of Sibelius music in 2015 as orchestras recognize the 150th anniversary of the Finnish composer’s birth.Sebelius-logo-two-color-6.16.14

Ken Meltzer’s Notes: Composer Jean Sibelius completed his Symphony No. 2 during a period when his native Finland was suffering under Russian domination. Despite Sibelius’ insistence his Symphony No. 2 conveyed no specific message, the Finnish people have long seen it as a forceful expression of patriotism.
